It grows up to 15 cm tall, has a wingspan of up to 23 cm and has a very varied diet (e.g. insects, larvae, nuts). Male great tits have a continuous black stripe on their belly and neck. Meisen sind in der Lage ihre Nahrung an die Jahreszeit anzupassen. Im Frühjahr und Sommer ernähren sie sich von Insekten. Auch ihren Nachwuchs füttern sie damit. In der kalten Jahreszeit schalten sie dann auf Pflanzensamen um. Besonders beliebt sind Sonnenblumenkerne. Das hat den Vorteil, dass Meisen nicht nennenswert ziehen müssen.
