All hail Pierre's mentor, Preston Manning
"Mark Carney poses a threat to national unity.
If he remains PM after this election, there's a real possibility that Western Canada will move to secede.
Voter need to recognize a vote for the Carney Liberals is a vote for secession - a vote for the breakup of #Canada as we know it."
Translation:
"Nice country you have there, shame if something happens to it if you vote how we don’t like"
#poilievre #cdnpoli #Abpoli #elxn45 @stephaniecarvin.bsky
I saw that earlier...
And did you see the one put out by PP's wife?
The massive disinformation campaign must be costing millions of dollars.
@Snowshadow The Conservative war chest is massive. A million here a million there. NO biggie.
I did see "Mrs PP for PM" whisper in Pierre's ear after he'd finished a speech, turn him around and send him back to the podium to slam Carney on some nonsensical point.
There will be no living with her if PP loses this election.
@gemelliz @Snowshadow We can hope the PPs move to the US where the current fascism is more to their liking
@CodieneC @Snowshadow maybe back to Venezuela seeing as Canada is broken and all
@gemelliz I saw a screenshot of a her tweet asaying Trudeau met with various unsavoury elements of society--not going to repeat the words she used.
Disgusting.
@Snowshadow Ana #Poilievre has always been a political operative in her own right. She started her career working for PM Harper. #IDU
Now Mrs #Poilievre is EVERYWHERE as the Conservatives try to put the wheels back on the bus. It must be killing her to listen to PP talk while she sits on the sidelines coaching.
Did PP go grey overnight??!
@gemelliz
PP is such a unserious politician.
Trudeau gets rid of his grey, so does PP, Carney doesn't hide his grey, PP reveals his.
If Pierre Poilievre wanted to distance himself from Liberals why does he mimic each Liberal Prime Minister?
@Snowshadow omg - Do you think Pierre stopped colouring his hair to project a 'silver fox' vibe? "that'll get those gal votes"
ludicrous, but cheaper than his well-publicized $3-million summer make-over :)
@gemelliz His behaviour is mind-boggling
@gemelliz It would be shame, given how much of his base might feel about it, if we now made a very big point about how until now he's been dying his hair...
@gemelliz @Snowshadow Does a Spanx t-shirt and contact lenses really cost $3 million? #cdnpoli
@cjmoorehead @Snowshadow [#Poilievre] dressed in a pair of bootleg blue jeans and wearing aviator sunglasses like those worn by Tom Cruise in the Top Gun movies.
I expect the better part of the $3-million makeover expense was the ad campaign to "re-introduce Pierre to Canadians"
https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/poilievre-makeover-glasses-1.6911533
@gemelliz @cjmoorehead @Snowshadow Can anyone #photoshop Pp with some eye liner, a la Vance?
5$ that’s the last desperate attempt, by election night.
Please. there's too much phototshopping going on now. @gemelliz @cjmoorehead
“Did PP go grey overnight??!”
It’s probably just the light reflecting off a copious amount of Brylcreem (he’s living the ‘50s lifestyle to the max).
@gemelliz @Snowshadow #MrsPPForPM She sleeps with #PP. No more need be said.
@gemelliz You might be right, it's probably better to just succumb to Trump and become a state run by fascists.
@gemelliz
#DeportPrestonManning. He has made it clear that he too is a traitor. Hey #Preston, you fascist fuck, I'll drive you and your shit to the US border so you can personally secede. Call me anytime for a lift - one way only, in case you're too stupid to figure that out.
@gemelliz
We need to run these traitors out of our country.
@NMBA @gemelliz
This Hour has 22 minutes did a good segment on the traitors. https://youtu.be/SJiJr3TwHnI?si=u1QeTKVlr9nTU6w5
@gemelliz Good. Don't let the door hit them on the ass on the way out.
Manning and his ilk are always quick to blame everything on the Liberals in Ottawa. And will Mark Carney, should he win, demand that Alberta and Saskatchewan secede? Of course not. But far better to stir up bad feelings in those incapable of critical thought than work with the government of the day, regardless of political stripe.
@swordgeek @gemelliz My fear, Colin, is you would be a part of a minority.
As i read somewhere, Smith got barely a third of Albertans in a survey thinking that dropping CPP for an Alberta run pension plan was a good idea. I doubt there’d be much support for separatating from Canada.
For one thing, the federal government could shut down the TransMountain pipeline.
@Sanderde @swordgeek @gemelliz But didn't the UCP introduce a resolution (shortly after Smith became Premier, IIRC) that the government did not have to adhere to the results of any plebiscite or referendum? In other words, if the government thought secession was a great idea and 85% of the population said no, they could go ahead and do it anyway? The same for pension plans, etc.? The TBA approach, I believe.
They did for the pension plan:
https://nationalpost.com/news/politics/alberta-government-pension-plan-referendum
I don’t see how they could secede without a majority accepting it in a referendum. Even Quebec didn’t go that far (though Parizeau wanted to) with 49.42% voting yes.
@Sanderde @mxhdroom @swordgeek "I doubt there’d be much support for separating from Canada."
The Conservative toolbox must be empty. Imagine campaigning on "we're going to break-up Canada" at a time when the country is under serious threat from our neighbour. Mind boggling.
@Sanderde @swordgeek @gemelliz I agree, but I think the largest hurdle would be solving how the indigenous lands are addressed.
@mxhdroom @Sanderde @swordgeek addressing indigenous lands never crosses their minds..
https://www.theenergymix.com/first-nation-demands-alberta-halt-olearys-70b-data-centre-project/
@swordgeek @mxhdroom @gemelliz
Honestly, I think it would be only a figurative bloodbath, and I would welcome it.
Because what I think would happen is, turds like Smith, Moe, Manning, etc., would have to stake their political careers on secession, and when that utterly crashed with less than 20% support, they'd be toast for a generation and their reactionary conservative parties with them.
@swordgeek @mxhdroom @gemelliz
This Canadian Albertan stands beside you. No room for traitors anymore.
@tnsaf @mxhdroom ha. Even the Manning Centre that Preston founded has changed its name.
Guess they're hoping Canadians will forget that the Manning Centre made donations$$$ to entities such as Canada Proud, which were linked to a series of robocalls & text messages sent to Canadians without permission. Or that the Centre was the primary backer for the onslaught of anti-Trudeau / anti-Liberal Facebook pages.

(Very short clip of comedy show Air Farce, with an impression of Preston Manning, sitting across from actual Preston Manning, saying "that's funny!" and laughing horribly.)
Here’s the article he wrote in the G&M:
https://www.theglobeandmail.com/opinion/article-mark-carney-is-a-threat-to-national-unity/
“On account of the mismanagement of national affairs for the last decade by the Liberal government, and its consistent failure to address those issues of greatest concern to Western Canadians, large numbers of Westerners simply will not stand for another four years of Liberal government, no matter who leads it.”
‘Large numbers’ is a very nebulous account of any actual secession movement in Western Canada.
@Sanderde Who's left from the old Reform days who's not dead yet that they haven't dragged out yet?
Stockwell Day? It’s getting warmer so he can arrive on a jet ski again to make his pronouncement on the horrors of another Liberal government.
@Sanderde Ah! I knew there was one of those losers I was forgetting. Damn. That was nice, forgetting...
@Sanderde https://archive.is/N6uQq
Manning's Western separation article - no paywall.
There was no paywall on the G&M article I linked to, at least not for me. Usually there is.
@Sanderde "usually there is" Yes, G & M is rarely unpaywalled, even years-old articles.
Just checked - still paywalled for me.
Clear your cookies. I use the DuckDuckGo browser on the iPad and nuke all the cookies and other crap frequently with its data clearing feature.
@Sanderde I use DDG as well :)
Thanks, will do
@gemelliz Fuck right off, Pressed-ham-ton. They're not going anywhere, and if they do, it's sure as hell not the fault of the rest of the country. Your fucking party declared Alberta a Have-Not province that needed more money from the rest while oil was at a record high price and they couldn't get people moving there fast enough for all the jobs popping up. You're a has-been and a never-should-have-been. Go home and be quiet. Adults are talking.
@ZenHeathen @gemelliz
Real Canadians need to tell the MAGA cons to GTFO at every one of their rallies. A group of people need to take turns as their thugs remove you.
@gemelliz
Preston Mannings still alive?! Is he doing; Tales from the Crypt?
The reason that the CPC will lose this election is because of the wing nuts like Manning.
